Angwin Community Services The Angwin Community Services is about people helping people. It is
about food for hungry families, bicycles for children, clothes for community
residents and essentials for the poverty-stricken of the world, Community
Services is about making a difference. The Center is a hub of goodwill in the Angwin/Pope Valley communities.
Here one person's extra becomes another's essential. The center accepts
donations of usable items, does any necessary repairs or cleaning and
then redistributes them to those in need. The Center provides several services to the community's needy.
- Free Food - Given to low-income families on the third Tuesday of each
month. Surplus government food is supplemented with food Community Services
purchases, so each family receives a large box of staples. Speak with
the Community Services director to receive food.
- Free Clothing - Available to needy families in Angwin or Pope Valley.
These families may choose 10 pieces of clothing per person every 3 months.
Each family receives 5-10 household items.
Community Services is also a local thrift store - a place for the exchange
of used, but usable goods. The center receives many clothes, furniture,
bedding, household items and books. These items are sold for a small price.
The proceeds from these sales go to community projects. Recently money
has helped purchase playground equipment for area schools, helped put
new paving in front of the Angwin Fire Department, and helped feed the
elderly at the Neighborhood Table. About 25 volunteers clean, repair, and arrange the donated items for
sale and giveaway. Help is always appreciated. The center also appreciates
the donation of clean usable items for giveaway and resale. All donations
are tax deductible. The Community Services Center is located at 275 Clark Way and is open
every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You may reach the Center at 965-2018.
Please drop by, browse the items, donate your useful but unneeded items,
volunteer some time or use the food and clothing services. |
