A group of businessmen went to a remote mountain retreat
for a weekend of leadership training. Expecting graphs, statistics, and pep talks, they were "blown away"
when their boss, Mr. Clarkson, asked them to trade their notebooks for
shovels. "I want you to dig a ditch 2 feet wide and 10 inches deep,
around the perimeter of my cabin," he said. And with those words,
he disappeared inside it. At first nobody said anything. But soon their silence turned into questioning.
Then they started arguing about 9 inches being close enough to 10, and
complaining about having risen to the top of the corporate ladder only
to be forced to do manual labor. Finally, Bill, a newcomer to the group, turned to the others and said,
"Who cares why he told us to do it, let's just do it!" With those words, the cabin door opened and the boss reappeared. "Gentlemen,"
he said, as he grabbed Bill's hand, "I'd like you to meet your new
vice-president." There are 3 things we need to learn from this story today:
- When God doesn't explain something, it's because you don't need the
details.
- When He doesn't speak, it's because He's working things out.
- When He tests you on one level, it's because He's getting ready to
take you to the next. So don't question.
