In the Hebrew Bible, we find that the word for unfailing love is che-sed. It is the same word used for steadfast love, kindness, mercy. Its encouraging to know that this important and rich word is found more than 175 times in the Old Testament to announce Gods unswerving faithfulness to His worshipers. The Lord loves His people, and they love Him in return. Every page of Scripture proclaims that uplifting truth. But you know, with human beings, love can have a variety of meanings. The love the Bible introduces is based on the Hebrew word chesed, which refers to a special kind of loveGods steadfast loyalty to those who have accepted His covenant. For sure, God loves all He has made, but His unfailing love is reserved for members of His family. When, as Gods children and servants, we run into difficulties, we can ask for His help. Our appeal to Him is not done on the basis of how much we deserve, but on the basis of His faithfulness. Save us because of your unfailing love (Psalm 44:26). To everyone who worships the Lord with a loyal and sincere heart, His promise is clear. I will not fail you, or abandon you (Joshua 1:5). You are Lord! --Robson DeOliveira |
