The Healing Zone

[Current Devotional Thought]
[Devotional Archive]

During WWI, many thousands of soldiers died due to wound infections caused by the bacteria staphylococcus.

In 1928, Dr. Alexander Fleming had been successful in growing these organisms in small round flat dishes (petri) using a nutrient gel (“agar”). Leaving for a month’s holiday, he left the dishes on the laboratory table. One floor below, however, a team of doctors were working on molds found in the damp apartments of London causing asthma in children. Because of unusually cold weather which facilitated the growth of the mold, it found its way into Dr. Fleming’s laboratory and into the petri dishes.

Returning from his vacation and while cleaning his laboratory, Fleming noticed no bacterial growth around this mold called Penicillium notatum, producing penicillin which killed the bacteria. Further research led to the manufacture of penicillin, which saved many soldiers’ lives during WWII.

As the penicillin mold coming in contact with the bacteria produced a clear zone, so our close contact with Christ produces healing, regeneration, and creation of the “new man” in Christ Jesus.

Luke 6:19 reports that all in the crowd tried to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them. So, friends, let us draw closer and closer to our source of healing, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
