If 2002 was one of "those" years that you began with optimism,
and ended a little despondent, feeling all alone in the world, and with
a couple of extra little wrinkles, and a few extra pounds. If during the
year you forgot more than one important commitment
like your significant
other's birthday (or your spouse's!), not to mention differences of opinion
with the boss, a barely passing grade in a class, and more than one goal
remained out of reach. If 2002 wasn't as great as it could have been,
2003 has arrived! Paul puts it this way, "But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind
and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win
the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus"
(Philippians 3:13-14). We know the destination of our journey is a sure thing and guaranteed
by Jesus Himself, "Let not your hearts be troubled" (John 14:1),
is what He said, remember? When we put these two texts together, it's
like hearing Jesus say: "Because I am in charge, you can take one
day at a time and seize it for good in your life and the lives of those
around you! Yesterday is gone forever. No sense sitting around wishing.
Tomorrow is in my hands. I'm here today to hold your hand and help you
make the most of it." We can certainly use that kind of positive and encouraging perspective
when we get up each day of this New Year! He's ready. Let's do it! -Robson DeOliveira |
